Tomatoes are easily the easiest plant or vegetable or fruit if you may to grow. Probably the main problem when planting tomatoes or any other vegetable is when is the proper time to start to plant my tomatoes.
With all the recent scares in the news about the tomato problems in the United States it probably is a good idea to start growing your own vegetables and plants.
If you are going to be planting tomatoes in early spring it is not a bad idea to plant the tomatoes in a planter then move them to soil when it gets warmer. In Canada spring can last pretty long and sometimes there is frost still on the ground by the end of May. By doing this you are watering and using fertilizer during the prime hours of the day and moving the plants in form the cold at night. You could even start to plant your tomatoes at the end of June but you would want only the strongest tomato plants to get a good yield.
You can also calculate the temperate of the soil before planting them in your garden. Like before you could start the plants out inside then move to soil when it gets warmer. If that seems like too much work then you will have to wait until the soil reaches a temperature of around 75 degrees, if the temperature does drop below 60 you could lose your plants.
Another indication for when to plant is check the local weather and see when the frosts are finished in your area. In Canada you won’t be able to plant your tomatoes until mid May or if it is a cold summer then the beginning of June.
With all the tangibles for planting the best idea when to plant will be up to you. If you are in warmer climate you will know when it is safe to plant tomatoes and if you live in a colder climate and only get a few months of summer then the end of spring will work for you, either way you will be able to have delicious tomatoes in no time at all.
