Tomatoes are quite easy to grow from seeds or a plant but there are always some little garden bugs that could hamper the growth of your tomatoes. We will take a look at how to prevent garden bugs from tampering with your garden.

Tomatoes are a rather problem free vegetable when it comes to gardens but you do need to take control or have preventative measures in place to stop the common bugs or disease that can occur.

One of the most common preventative measures for stopping bugs is to moderately prepare your soil for planting and plant the tomatoes properly, also rotation of your crops are a good idea to prevent bugs or disease. Do not I repeat do not plant tomatoes where you have planted potatoes, eggplants or peppers. These plants carry the same bugs and disease that a tomato plant would. It is sometimes best to plant tomatoes after legumes, sprouts or beans.

One of the best preventions for bugs is to moderately view your plants and tomatoes for signs of trouble. Bugs are definitely easier to view than disease but here are a few bugs to watch out for and what to do if you have them.

Cutworms, cutworms are ground night feeders or caterpillars that like to chew the stems of your plants. To get rid of these little critters just place a cardboard tube along the seedlings at planting time. Signs that you have cutworms are detached seedlings at or below the root.

Aphids are tiny little bugs that suck the sap from the plant. Using doses of water will get rid of these tiny bugs. Signs that you have aphids are curled or faint leaves covered with dew from the sap.

Another pesky bug is the mite. Mites are spider like bugs that also suck plant sap. If you find webbing around or under your leaves then you will know you have mites. Mites are usually found under hot conditions so again by constantly watering your plants you will be able to get rid of most bugs.

So if you are having problems with your tomato plants and want to get rid of them just give your tomatoes some TLC and they should be just fine.
